100 years of sediment and torrents of water dumped into the river in 1 hour. What does that do to the habitat of the existing river and the spawning beds that were there? And what about the erosion caused by this torrent on it’s way to the Columbia?
Other dams I’ve seen dismantled are drained and the sediment removed with diggers and used as part of the reclaimed land’s topsoil. New growth is almost instantaneous with such fertile ground.
I know one thing….The great fishing we have had below is gone….Now that all of that silt will fill the mouth of the river…..Oh well…..It was a good ride for me for 28 years. One of the most unique fisheries in the world.
I would like to see some down stream photos especially where it meets the Columbia.I expect the sedimentation has just begun to move down stream.
Me too!
Maybe a new beach forming for the windsurfers?
